Auction: 13USA - The Westchester Collection
Lot: 48
#217, 30c Orange brown, perfectly centered within unusually wide margins all around, spectacularly intense color and a crisp highly detailed impression on immaculate paper, unblemished o.g. without a single gum bend or skip, never hinged, extremely fine gem.[cr][lf][cr][lf]The Thirty Cent value from the 1887-88 American Bank Note Series is quite notorious for being typically tightly margined. Examples such as the one offered here are particularly challenging to find with such wide margins. Additionally, this stamp is almost never encountered never hinged. Combining these two desirable attributes on a single stamp creates a genuine condition rarity. This is easily the finest never hinged example we have ever offered and certainly ranks among the very finest available.[cr][lf][cr][lf]Accompanied by 1985 and 1998 PF certificates, as well as a 2007 PSE certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $8,600.00); one of only four never hinged examples to have been graded 95, with only one grading higher (98); ex-Zoellner. Estimate US$ 6,500-7,500
