Auction: 13USA - The Westchester Collection
Lot: 115
#327, 10c Louisiana Purchase, the mint example offered here is the epitome of perfection, possessing mathematically precise centering amid uncharacteristically large margins, sumptuously rich color and impression on crisp bright paper, unblemished o.g. without a single gum bend or skip, n.h., a superb gem.[cr][lf][cr][lf]Any non-modern United States stamp that has been graded Gem 100 is, of course, an extraordinary condition rarity and highly sought after by serious collectors. However, as true aficionados of graded U.S. stamps know, there are some stamps, or series of stamps, that are exponentially more challenging to find in this ultimate of all grades than others. The Ten Cent Louisiana Purchase offered here is one of the stamps that one might have thought would never be graded Gem 100, as it is always found with tight margins and never perfectly centered - until now. This magnificent stamp is flawless in every regard and is, without question, the finest we have ever seen, let alone offer in our auctions.[cr][lf][cr][lf]Accompanied by a 2008 PSE certificate (Gem 100 Jumbo; unpriced in SMQ in any grade higher than 98, SMQ $12,300.00 for a 98, which is totally irrelevant to the final auction realization of this unique stamp); the only Scott #327 to have been awarded the pinnacle of all grades.
