Bruce Lee's Ketsugo Karate Book A Fountain of Knowledge… This 1st edition hardback volume of Defend Yourself: The First Book On Ketsugo, written by Hank Robert in 1961, was personally bought and studied by the late great Bruce Lee. During his lifetime, Bruce Lee had a large personal library of books on martial arts and philosophy, which he would study diligently to inform his thinking, whilst building the principles for his revolutionary hybrid martial arts system, Jeet Kune Do. Karate was an art that Bruce studied to determine its weak points, as he felt it was much too reliant on kata (fixed patterns of movement for attack and defense). Lee has signed the book with the annotation 'Property of Bruce Lee' in his unmistakably fluid style. This unique and historic volume also features some of Bruce's JKD conception notes and drawings on key pages, covering subjects like center-line theory, weight distribution and dissolving energy. Bruce was an avid reader and this illustrated volume was one of his favourites. It is also the first book on Ketsugo Karate written for a Western readership. Ex Taky Kimura
