Ferdinand I
1546 (10 Aug.) letter in a fine itallic script, in Latin, from the royal palace in Prague, with full signature of Ferdinand I, Emperor of Hungary and Bohemia, and two councillors, addressed to Nicholas Suco in Milan; with complete waxed wafer seal showing the Imperial crown over an eagle displayed (the seal has been removed from the reverse and affixed to the front of the letter for display); two vertical folding creases at the sides, otherwise very fine. Ferdinand I (1503-1564)‚ Holy Roman Emperor (1556-1564)‚ younger brother of Charles V. He was chosen by Charles to administer Germany (1521). He married Anne of Bohemia and Hungary. He was elected King of Hungary and Bohemia (1526) and King of Germany (1531). He was at the forefront in the defence of Central Europe against the Ottoman Empire.
