Auction: 13047 - Banknotes of Bermuda - Dr. the Hon. David J. Saul Collection
Lot: 46

(x) Bermuda Government, specimen 10 shillings, 1 April 1943, serial number F/4 000000, red, pink and pale orange and lilac, head of George VI in oval frame at centre, Gates Fort below, the signature of the Colonial Treasurer, R.A.Kelly and the Assistant Colonial Treasurer G.L.Young at right, reverse red and green, arms at centre, value at left and right
(Pick 13As, BG BG14s, Aspen unlisted), perforated, lightly handled otherwise almost uncirculated and possibly unique. In 1943 upon the departure of John Trimingham it was proposed to replace him with R.A.Kelly who was based in London at the time instead of the expected promotion of Gerald Young. Accordingly Kelly signed the notes for the printers Bradbury Wilkinson and the 10 shilling and the £1 were produced prior to the expected issue of currency of 1943. Sadly Kelly died before he could take up the post and the notes were scrapped. No other examples are believed extant. Excessively rare and desirable
