(x) Italy, Venice, Alvise IV Mocenigo (1763-78), pattern striking in gold of a half-Tallero, to the weight of 4-Zecchini, 13.82g, 1769, *aloysio mocenigo duce*~*, Lion of St Mark seated with open book, date below, rev. *respublica veneta*~*, allegorical bust of Venetia right, 32mm. (CNI.508/192; F.1378; P. note p.129), a soft strike and has been gently cleaned, very fine, very rare

Paolucci notes "There exists in the name of this Doge a fractional piece of the new type tallero struck in gold. This is certainly a pattern or fantasy piece (prova di zecca o un capriccio) since its diameter is less than a half-tallero and greater then a quarter. It probably belongs to the issue specially made by the mint on the occasion of Emperor Joseph II's visit to Venice in 1769."
