First Afghan War, 1839-42
1842 (29 May) entire letter (portion of address panel missing) ex the Riddell correspondence to his wife at Indore, headed "General Pollock's Camp at Jellalabad" and showing, on reverse, Loodiana Bearing handstamp alongside fine boxed "l.p.o." (the military handover point of Civil P.O.). An interesting letter written shortly before the relief of Jellalabad by General Nott, the contents with fascinating and detailed references made concerning the British withdrawal of General Pollock's reluctance to obey orders, sickness amongst troops, etc.
