3rd. Printing, Head Die II, Frame Die I

1855 (June) envelope from an unknown office "Paid to England 9 anna Via Bombay & Southampton" to London, bearing two cut-to-shape examples in deep blue and red in combination with ½a. Die I pair with one showing printing flaw at upper left, all cancelled with diamond of dots with the two 4a. additionally cancelled and tied by London Paid c.d.s., showing framed "india paid" below and, on reverse, despatch c.d.s. and London datestamp (17.8), pencil notation at foot reads "Printed in March 1855 (i.e. 3rd. printing) Very rare EAS" (E A Smythies); the envelope rather damaged at foot and with other lesser faults, none affecting the adhesives.
