This remarkable type makes a clear political statement in reviving the design of the famous eid mar Denarius struck by M. Junius Brutus in 42 BC in celebration of the assassination of Julius Ceasar. In so doing it demonstrates that the leaders of the Galban revolt to overthrow the tyranny of Nero saw themselves acting with similar motives to those of the conspirators against Julius Caesar in 44 BC.
