A moneyer Ludig also struck Lunettes pennies in Mercia for Burgred but is not known to have struck coins for Wessex before the two line issue. This coin is assigned as a Mercian two line issue on this basis.
Ninth century coins with peck marks are unusual, with this practise (for testing metal fineness by traders) most commonly associated with late tenth and early eleventh century coins.
