Reverse type D is rare for Alfred. Lyons and MacKay noted 20 examples of reverse D in their Corpus of 197 coins for Alfred's lunettes coinage. The majority of Alfred's lunettes pennies noted in this Corpus were struck from Canterbury dies with only 42 noted as being from London dies.
