Mercia, Coenwulf (796-821), Penny, 1.28g, three line phase, 796-97, London, Winoth, cenvvlf between beaded crooks vis a vis, uncial m, trefoil at each side above, rex with pellets, rev. vvinoÐ, lozenge o, within angles of beaded long cross, three arms terminating with an uncial m, one arm with a parallel line terminating with crooks (Naismith L7a - this coin; N.-; cf S.912A), lightly porous surfaces, full flan, good very fine, extremely rare, the only recorded example of this transitional Offa - Coenwulf type
