Eleanor of Aquitaine (after 1185), Denier, 0.90g, two cross pattée divided by a pellet, m above, a below, +dvcis it, rev. +aqvitanie, cross pattée (Elias 11 var.), nearly very fine

The meaning of dvcisit on this coin has puzzled numismatists. It has been suggested that it derives from dvcis[sa] it[ervm], meaning Duchess again. This would match the status of Eleanor either after 1185, when she was restored to her own dower or after 1189 when her restoration was made effective by the death of Henry II.

Elias supported this dating on the basis of similarities in the lettering on these coins and an issue of Richard Coeur de Lion.
