Edward VIII (1936), the unique pair of separate strikings in tin of the obverse and reverse designs for the proposed Crown of 1937, the obverse, by T. Humphrey Paget, depicting the famous left facing portrait of Edward, edwardvs viii d; g: br: omn: rex around, signed with small hp below truncation, the reverse by G. Kruger Gray depicting the crowned arms with supporters, fid: def: ind: imp above, crown: 1937. below, signed with small kg between legs of supporters, both with plain reverses with model in raised letters in the centres, both with toothed borders and milled edges, 39mm. (Dyer plate A6 (obverse only) and plate E; Giordano T5c and T36a; the Pattern Crown listed in ESC391c, R6), carbon spotting on the portrait and on the Unicorn on the reverse, otherwise extremely fine and of the highest rarity, according to Giordano the only pair of trial strikes in tin, the obverse being the only trial striking known in any metal, the reverse trial known also in silver, therefore a unique pair of trial strikings for this famous coinage (2)
