Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, specimen $10, 1 January 1905, no serial numbers, blue and pink-red, arms top centre, the central Praya of Hong Kong at left (built on reclaimed land), shoreline scene at right, printed signature of the Chief Manager, J. R. M. Smith, low right, reverse red, the Bank head office at centre, value at left and right
(Ma H 13 for later date, Cribb 2.45 var., HK Museum 201var.), perforated, red SPECIMEN overprint and an attractive Waterlow engraving. This date is seen on the earlier issue of $10 but appears to be an unrecorded date for this type. The earlier style dated up to 1st June 1905, this is 1st January. Extremely fine, attractive and extremely rare and probably an unrecorded date for type and therefore a major rarity.
