Auction: 13004 - World Banknotes
Lot: 1133
Palestine Currency Board, £10, 7 September 1939, red serial number B273848, blue and pale green, the White Tower, Ramleh, at left, value in pale brown guilloche at centre, value at each corner, three printed signatures of the Members of the Palestine Currency Board at centre, Sir John Caulcutt, Sir Percy Ezehiel and H.F.Downie, reverse blue, the Citadel of Jerusalem with the Tower of David at centre, value at left and right and low centre
(Pick 9c, Dabbah page 169), only 450000 printed, the balance for the series printed in 1944. The note was one of what seems to be a group of five notes, all from the same print run B2737XX and B2738XX, all in AU to UNC. Apparently, the notes were surfaced during the late 1970´s and were first auctioned at the A.I.N.A. ´81 sale / NASCA public auction sale, 30 April 1981. as it known today from close examination, due to mishandling most of the other notes lost their high grade with the exception of the above. A spectacular original UNC example, and the finest note extant, very rare
