Bahamas 1853 (6 July) entire letter from Nassau to Bordeaux, the outer letter sheet and the enclosed letter from New Orleans dated 18 June, each with superb strikes of the "vice-consulat de france a nassau. n.p. bahamas/empire/français" circular cachet, the face panel showing "new-york/am packet" c.d.s. (23.7), "8" rate h.s. and Paris transit c.d.s. (5.8), the reverse with "forwarded/by/w.h. newman & co" cachet and arrival c.d.s. (5.8); the entire letter with a few faults at folds though a most unusual item and the first example of the French Vice-Consulate cachet that we have seen. Photo Estimate £ 1,200-1,400
