Prince Edward Island Early Letters and Handstamps Mail from Great Britain 1802 (2 Oct.) entire letter ex the "Douglas" correspondence from Edinburgh marked "Duplicate", addressed to "Prince Edward Island, Gulf of St. Lawrence" and carried by a merchant vessel. No markings or charges were applied. Estimate £ 100-120 Note: The use of "duplicate" letters was necessary owing to the continuing loss of shipping brought about by French raiders operating out of New York and Chesapeake. provenance: Dr. R.V.C.
