Great Britain Postal History A Selection of Poignant Entires and Letters 1818 (1 June) entire letter to Islington from George Claxton in the condemned cell of Newgate prison, written on the day before his execution ("It is my wish before I depart this world to address a few lines to you hoping you will not take it for any other motive than the sincere regard I have for you....") for the crime of "uttering" (forgery); without postal markings, some stains but a very rare document and of the utmost poignancy.
