Togo British Occupation R.M.S. Appam R.M.S. Appam left Dakar on 11th January 1916 with the West African mail. She was captured by the German cruiser "Moewe" and sailed to the United States. The passengers and mail were released and taken to Falmouth. The mail arrived in London on 18th February 1916 1915 (29 Dec.) envelope registered to Cambridge, bearing 1915 (May) 2d. pair, the left stamp showing variety small "f", neatly cancelled by "lome/togo" c.d.s., marked "SS Appam" at top left, showing provisional registration label, "Passed by Censor/at/Lome (Togo)" h.s. in violet (Martin & Walton Type 1) with red crayon initials of H. Brooks, a post office official, below and, on reverse, London and arrival datestamps. Photo Estimate £ 250-300
