Lagos 1892 (12 Dec.) 1d. stationery card with "halfpenny" deleted in red ink, from Lady Brandford Griffith, wife of the Governor and Commander in Chief of the Gold Coast Colony, to her daughter in London, cancelled by "lagos/w. africa" c.d.s. and showing red Paid Liverpool Br. Packet d.s. (11.1); the card with corner crease at top left. Also used (stamp missing) picture postcard (Reminiscences of Lagos. Lagos Constabulary 1888 on Parade) from Lagos to Germany Estimate £ 60-80 Note: In 1892, following confrontation by the powerful Egba and Ijebu states in Lagos hinterland, an expedition was mounted against them made of units from the Gold Coast Constabulary, the Lagos Constabulary and the 2nd West Indian Regiment. As senior C. in C. Sir William was therefore in Lagos.
