Oxton, brewer – St George and dragon, Edward Phipps, 1/2d. – winged lion (N.8676, 8681-3, 8712a, 8713b, 8715-18; BW.738, 737, 736, 740, 2982, 2764, 1145, 1146, 1147, 1148), fair to nearly very fine, BW.1148 rare, BW.1146 and 1147 extremely rare, BW.2982 the only known issue for its locality (10) Estimate £ 130-160 William Clifton apprentice vintner 1620s, at the Fleece tavern 1651-61; William Long, apprentice vintner 1622, at the Rose 1641, buried 1661. These taverns are mentioned in Samuel Pepys´s diary.
