China Covers and Cancellations Airmails 1924 (1 May) pre-printed "via aerial service" opened-out envelope to Shanghai bearing 1921 Air 15c. and, on reverse, 3c. Junk tied by Moukden c.d.s., the envelope with manuscript "Via Newchwang" in red ink; the reverse with two additional Newchwang (2.5) and Shanghai (5.5) c.d.s. Fine and saving about 4 days on the traditional route. A rare and important cover used on the first trial flight. Photo Estimate HK$ 12,000-15,000 Note: the Moukden - Newchwang service is one where it is difficult to determine any relaible information as the route was never officially established. It is believed that planes left Moukden on Tuesdays and Fridays at 8 a.m. for Newchwang, returning on the same day at 4.30 p.m.. The Post Office received mail one day before the flight. The first trial flight recorded is Friday 2nd May (mail postmarked on 1st May)
