x Canada 1852-56 Handmade Wove Paper, Imperforate 6d. slate-violet, two singles, both with ample to large margins and good colour, the left stamp with small tear towards lower right, both clearly cancelled by target obliterator to an impressive 1856 (14 Feb.) Valentine envelope (199x135mm.) with ornate embossed floral embellishments and a "Juliet" figure, used from Montreal to Stamford, Connecticut, and showing clear despatch c.d.s.; the envelope with gorgeous and colourful original enclosure, depicting a Romeo and Juliet design with floral add-ons in silk, pare and gilt (minor repairing and a few pieces missing), very fine. An absolutely stunning and extraordinary use of the Six Pence issue on a Valentine cover, paying the correct prepaid double rate to the United States.
