Great Britain 1840 Mulready One Penny Letter Sheets A11, addressed to Surrey, centrally struck Maltese Cross cancellation, on reverse 1840 (13 May) Bath double ring d.s. and red datestamp (14 May); without contents but endorsed on the flap "This Penny Postage Cover is the first I have received. It was invented by some Lady about the Court and given to Mr. Mulready RA to reduce to the proper size...", a little soiled and refolded to display the message, fine and a fascinating survival of postal historical significance, an early use.
