1776 1 Dollar, Continental Currency. Pewter. XF. Newman-2C. Breen-1092. A colonial American numismatic classic, the desgn for the Continental Currency Dollar, as many know, is credited to one of this countries noblest patriots, Benjamin Franklin. The design itself is chockfull of symbolism, most noticeably on the reverse that pictures thirteen interlocked rings, each with the name of one of the thirteen original colonies. Inside the rings, simply stated, "We Are One", testifying to the unity of the land. The obverse, while more cryptic, also holds symbolic interest. While the exact interpretation is debatable, there is little doubt that "Mind Your Business" was a warning to both American colonists and the British to concentrate on their own affairs and not that of others. Both sides of this example show attractive gray coloration. While circulation is evident in highpoint wear and scattered marks, all the integral design characteristics remain legible, if not bold. Overall, quite a charming piece with tons to like. Accompanying the lot will be an ANACS certification card, stating the item as genuine with EF (XF) details.
