1879-80 Tender Essays and Proofs 1879 De La Rue Tender for the 1d. Value Die Proofs Head Type A, Frame Types 1 to 6, each stamp-size in black on glazed card with hand-drawn simulated perforations and each with manuscript "cancelled" in ink diagonally, inset on piece of thick card (198x145mm.) lettered "B" with hand-drawn "thos de la rue & co" above the proofs, "it is suggested that the colour should not be determined upon until the plates are completed and proof-sheets, in a variety of colours, can be submitted" at foot and dated "may 17th 79"; a remarkable showpiece Estimate £ 5,000-6,000 Note: De La Rue submitted four cards of die proofs of which three are in archival collections. When De La Rue placed their duplicate set of cards on the market one further card was purchased for an archival collection
