1841 Two Pence Blue Plate 3 1847 (29 Dec.) entire letter to a Captain in the Royal Engineers in Wellington, New Zealand bearing DA-DF horizontal strip of six in a bright blue shade, small to large margins all round and tied by "309" numeral of Gateshead with the despatch c.d.s. on reverse and undated West Boldor village postmark and London transit; the face with Auckland (7.11) and Wellington (27.11) c.d.s., rate mark "4" and manuscript "By mail H.M.S. Acheron, Decb 30. 1847". A very fine and rare Soldiers letter to New Zealand, an early date, taking eleven months to reach its destination. Estimate £ 1,000-1,500 A letter to his brother, the long and interesting contents give news of home and express great fear for the safety of his brother as reports of his company nearly being cut off on the Wangonui River by savages
