(M.325), good very fine, rare Estimate £ 100-150 The State built railway line from Turin to Alessandria and Genoa (1847-53) was extended to Navara, and from there by a single track line to Arona, completed in 1855. From Arona traffic reached Locarno by paddle steamer (functioning since 1826) and from there to Switzerland via the Gotthard and Lucomagno Alpine passes. The passenger-paddle steamer San Bernardino, built by Escher, Wyss & Co., Zurich, operated on Lake Maggiore from 1855.
