James I, third coinage, 1619-25, ´fine work´ Laurel, 8.88g, m.m. spur rowel, first, large laureate draped bust left, pellet stops, rev. long cross fourchée over crowned square topped shield, inverted ns in legend (Schneider II -; N -; cf. S.2637), a piece of fine work, perfectly centred on a full flan, nearly extremely fine and excessively rare, in PCGS holder graded XF 45 Estimate £ 20,000-25,000 provenance Christie´s, 28 April 1987, lot 146. The only other example of a fine work Laurel we know of to appear at auction was lot 170 in the Drabble sale in 1939. This though was a second bust obverse.
