The telautograph, an early ´Fax´ machine for transmitting handwriting by telegraph equipment was invented in the U.S.A. by Elisha Gray in 1888. This company was set up for exploiting the patents in the United Kingdom. The Telautograph Corporation continued for many years and many mergers before being absorbed in Xerox in the 1990´s.
