Société Générale de Belgique S.A., a group of 3 specimen ´part de reserve´ for 1250 francs, from the Bradbury Wilkinson archives, three different issues, 28 February 1928, 10 May 1929 and an undated issue later than 1935 (printer´s annotation for 1945), this with small red DUPLICATA overprint, vignettes of coat of arms, steam locomotive, miners underground and mine buildings, large allegorical female in the centre, green and black, with coupons, the first 2 with red ´specimen´ medallion at bottom, extremely fine. (5). Formed in 1822 under the auspices of King William of the Netherlands. Served as the National bank of Belgium after independence in 1830 until 1850 when the Banque Nationale was formed. Invested in all branches of industry at home and in the Colonies such as Congo. The banking arm was split after 1929 and the company was eventually merged into Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux in 1998.
