Battle of Waterloo, a lottery ticket for 1 florin, 1827, for the chance to win a painting of the battle by M. Le Roy, black on thick paper, very fine. The painting which measured 8 feet by 5 feet and was lavishly framed, was painted in 1816 and won first prize when exhibited in a competition in Gand (Ghent) and was reputed to cost 6360 florins. It was the most detailed depiction of the battle and included all the prominent figures such as Wellington, Napoleon, Blucher, the Prince of Orange and the Prince of Saxe Weimar. Along with the painting the prize included an engraved battle plan and other documents. Estimate £ 50-60
