x United States of America 1841 (30 July) long commercial letter to London by "Caledonian Steamer", rated "2/-" and with a very fine strike of "forwarded from/harnden´s/package express & foreign/letter office/no.2 wall street, new york" oval in red, the reverse with Liverpool "america" oval and London arrival (15.8). Detailed contents commence "The Great Western arrived yesterday bearing your letter ...", an informative account of the tea trade in New York at this time and includes news of a new store in New York, the South Street State Prison. A postscript adds, " ... if they write to Mr. Carroll, (at St. Helena) to request him to forward any letters to you by any Whaler bound for the U. States, when there is no other vessel there, we have received all our late intelligence by whale ships...". A delightful a fascinating letter.
