x French Colonies French Polynesia 1850 (29 Aug.) envelope with contents addressed to Benjamin Stark (a member of the Oregon House of Representatives); sent from Papiete, the letter is from a friend, "Herewith is a bill of lading for a box of oranges ... this is a very dull place, almost as bad a Oregon ...", with the Bill of Lading for "one box". The envelope, carried privately by ship to San Francisco with faint strikes of small handstruck "2" and "san francisco/cal/17/apr" c.d.s. A fine and rare complete correspondence.
