Sarawak 1893 (2 Aug.) envelope probably from Bishop George Hose to London and re-addressed locally, bearing 1888 2c. tied by Sarawak c.d.s., in combination with Straits Settlements 1883 5c. tied by Singapore c.d.s. (4.8) and showing London arrival datestamp (4.9) on reverse; the envelope with pressed central vertical crease, nevertheless a most attractive mixed franking. Phot0 Estimate S$ 3,000-4,000 Note: This envelope is addressed to Sir John Tankerville Goldney (1846-1902), a British barrister, who rose to be Chief Justice of Trinidad and Tobago, and was also High Sheriff of Wiltshire in 1910. He is also notable for introducing golf to Singapore in 1891.
