Cnut (1016-35), Penny, 1.02g, quatrefoil type, London, Godman, crowned bust left, rev. +godman on lvnde, voided long cross over quatrefoil (SCBI 14/2581- same reverse die; North 781; S.1157), nearly very fine, scarce moneyer Estimate £ 150-200 provenance Spink auction 6, 10 October 1979, lot 349 JJ North collection North noted this coin as by Leofman and the 1979 Spink sale reattributed it to Colman. We now assign it to Godman as the first letter of the moneyers name is undoubtedly a G and the presence of a reverse die duplicate in the Copenhagen Sylloge conclusively proves this is the correct attribution.
