New Oriental Bank Corporation Ltd., a group of 10 bearer warrants for 1 share of £10, 188[5], black with green underprint, with coupons, about extremely fine. (10) Estimate £ 200 Chartered as the Oriental Bank Corporation in 1851 mainly to allow competition with the East India Company but later opened branches in the Chinese treaty ports, Hong Kong, Japan, Mauritius and South Africa. Survived the banking crisis of 1865/6 and prospered until 1885 when it ran into severe difficulties and had to be re-constituted as the above. The Bank lost its profitable note issuing priviledge and with the growth of other banks, such as the Hong Kong & Shanghai and the Chartered, the new organisation never really prospered and it closed its doors in 1892.
