Hong Kong Covers and Cancellations The P & O Mails These cancellations were issued to P & O mailboat agents. The obliterators were to be used on previously uncancelled mail posted on board or naval mail despatched in sealed bags from the Far East. However, not all P & O agents were issued with these handstamps, hence the scarcity of these postmarks. These postmarks are so difficult to acquire that examples are usually included in a collection almost as an aside. To form a collection, as illustrated in the following seventeen lots, required great diligence and patience. "A81": Hong Kong 1862 12c. (2) cancelled by good strikes of the "A81" barred oval; first with small thin in right margin, latter with repaired corner. Webb RR. Photo Estimate HK$ 4,000-6,000 provenance: George C.
