China 1897 Revenue Surcharges Unsurcharged 3c. red perf.13.7 x 14 in the paler shade associate with this stamp, centred to the right, with thick, crinkly gum, which may not be original; one perf. near top right with trivial weakness. Fresh colour and of fine appearance. This is one of the most sought after stamps of Chinese philately. In 1987, 53 examples were recorded in the book, The Revenue Surcharges China 1897, though a few have surfaced from collections since then. In addition about twenty examples were recently been discovered in China, though these are all toned, and two blocks of six found by Spink in 2008
