($2,000-4,000) The first four CSA types were printed by the National Bank Note Company in New York, and most were issued while the Confederate capital was in Montgomery, Alabama. The quantities printed proved to be insufficient for the needs of the new government, and Secretary Memminger sought and located a new printing source, the New Orleans branch of the American Bank Note Company. Memminger contracted with Samuel Schmidt, the New Orleans branch manager, to produce a new group of notes designating Richmond as the new Confederate capital, and using the politically correct imprint of the ´´Southern Bank Note Company??. Dated August 25th through September 23rd, 5,798 of the ´´Richmond?? $100s and $50s were printed. All dated by hand, and signed by Elmore as Treasurer, and John Tyler (the former U. S. President?s son). Estimate US$ 2,000-4,000
