Naval Mail 1893 (25 Nov.) envelope from Cdr. Dundas addressed to his son F.G. Dundas at London, bearing Oil Rivers Protectorate 1892 2 1/2d. pair tied by "old calabar river" c.d.s. and showing "paid/liverpool/br. packet" c.d.s. (24.12) alongside. Attractive Estimate £ 100-120 Note: Cdr. F.G. Dundas R.N. was the first Marine Officer for the Oil Rivers Protectorate in 1892, responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Protectorate´s fleet, particularly of armed launches, which maintained regular communication (including the postal service) with the river estuaries in which the various Vice Consuls were stationed. This cover is addressed to one of his sons, a subaltern in The Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, who was later to serve in The Niger Coast Constabulary.
