Naval Mail 1869 (12 Sept.) envelope from Derry marked "Officers Letter" and addressed to "Captain The Honl Ernest G.L. Cochrane, H.M.S. Petrel, Sierra Leone, West Coast of Africa" and re-addressed in blue crayon to Jellah Coffee (a Packet port in the Gold Coast), bearing GB 1d. Pl. 114 (6) tied by "17" duplex, showing "1" accountancy handstamp in red and, on reverse, London (13.9), Liverpool (13.9) and Sierra Leone (1.10) datestamps; the envelope with some creasing and other lesser faults. Also 1870 (17 Jan.) "Police Court" letter to Capt. Cochrane regarding his court case and 1870 (7 Feb.) "Account sales by Public Auction on a/c of Captain Cochrane". Photo Estimate £ 300-400 Note: Captain Cochrane was engaged in the Africa Squadron on anti-slavery patrol. However there was trouble in Sierra Leone in January 1870 resulting in Captain Cochrane being accused of assault but acquitted.
