Togo British Occupation R.M.S. Appam R.M.S. Appam left Dakar on 11th January 1916 with the West African mail. She was captured by the German cruiser "Moewe" and sailed to the United States. The passengers and mail were released and taken to Falmouth. The mail arrived in London on 18th February 1916 1917 (31 Jan.) envelope from a German member of the Appam prize crew, interned in Newport News Virginia, addressed to Germany, marked "Adler, S.M.S. Appam" at top left, bearing US 1c. and 2c. (2), and showing "Mail service suspended/to country addressed" h.s. in purple; also a used picture postcard showing the Captain and officers of the German raider SMS Möwe.
