Sierra Leone 1912-21 Issue Essay 3d. composite essay, the head of Edward VII and vignette in blue green and let in frame in deep violet with the surrounds touched up in Chinese white, the whole sunk mounted on thick card (80x87mm.) dated "Dec. 6th. 10". A highly attractive and unique item of artwork. Photo Estimate £ 2,500-3,000 Note: Although King Edward VII had died in May 1910, his head continued to appear on some later essays. This essay for the King George V large format design was approved on January 18 1911. Work was delayed until the new royal portrait had been approved and a progressive die proof was not struck until June 1912
