Mr. Samori, a big Mohammedan Chief who you might have read of in the papers has we find been raiding all over the hinterland with the consequence that Trade has been diverted east and west to the Germans and French respectively and the Colony left destitute. Mr. S. has frequently written expressing his great loyalty and friendship for the British so I am afraid he must be a bit of scamp...he has about 30,000 followers, ten thousand of whom comprise his Cavalry.
