Gold Coast The Ashanti Wars The 1895 - 1896 Expedition The Expedition lasted from 11th November 1896 to 8th February 1896. It involved approximately 3000 troops and took place under the military co 1895 (late) soldier´s envelope to Lancashire, headed "From Bombr. G. Wilson No 65293 R.A.", countersigned by Captain George Benson "Commdg R.A. Detachment Ashanti Expedition", bearing 1884-91 1d. carmine-rose neatly tied by "paquebot/liverpool" double-ring d.s. (16.1) and showing, on reverse, Carnforth (16.1) and Kirkby-in-Furness (17.1) datestamps; the envelope with central vertical fold though a scarce item from the Scott Expedition.
