† Great Britain Postal History Newspapers The Times 1840 (19 Aug.) with an article on page 5 reading "Postage Stamps. - A paragraph has appeared in the papers to the effect, that wherever there is an office for the receipt of letters there is also a depot for stamps. This is not a fact. The stamps cannot be sold without a license, which the Post-office has undertaken to furnish to all Post-offices and sub-offices, but hitherto it has only been partially done; and, so far from being supplied with stamps for sale, those receivers who have not yet obtained their licenses cannot legally sell a single stamp"; fine Estimate £ 100-120
