Great Britain Postal History 1686 (c) delightful and most attractive love letter, written by Philip Williams to his future wife, Elizabeth Nalson of Ely, carried privately and without address or postal markings, charming contents, expressing unbounded devotion as her "eternal votarie"; fine. Sent during the reign of James II. One of the earliest recorded in private hands and an extraordinary rarity. Photo Estimate £ 1,200-1,500 Note: Philip Williams (died 1719), wrote this delightful letter to his future wife Elizabeth, daughter of John Nalson (1637-1686) the Rector of Doddington in the Isle of Ely. Nalson was an author and a significant collector of State papers (whose collections are preserved in the British Library, Bodleian and Cambridge University library). Nalson died on 24 March 1686 with Williams marrying his daughter and taking on the living at Doddington
