x Perforated Issues Mail to Foreign Destinations United States of America 1871 (23 Feb.) treble rate envelope (with letter) from Tocumwal to McMinnville, Tennessee, bearing 6d. purple and DLR 4d. strip of three, all cancelled by "507" sunburst, showing despatch and San Francisco 10 (13.4) datestamps (both additionally tying the strip) and, on reverse, Corowa (24.2), Mulwala (24.2), Albury (24.2) and Sydney (27.2) transit datestamps. A scarce franking. Photo Estimate £ 600-800 Note: This cover is marked "Via England, Overland Route" but was too late for the February P&O sailing so was transferred to the Pacific route. It was carried on the "City of Melbourne" which left Sydney on 7 March, arriving at Honolulu on the 24th with the mail reaching San Francisco on 12 April. provenance: Trevor Davis, May 2003
